A Story Of Black Unity... @ A P S U

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to tell you about the first time I experience that this Unity stuff really works.

I decide to tell you about my experience while in college at the "Peay".

It happen a long, long time ago..(its really not that long but you know, still long)

I was a senior at the Peay and this is when there wasn't a lot of African Americans at the school but was still a little more than a hand full.

We had our differences, you know the usual stuff, Kappa, Alpha,AKA,Delta and all that.(Any thing so seperate us) But when we had to come together as one we did. Let me tell the short form of the Story.

It was almost "Home Coming", usually all the frats, sorieties and social clubs would submit a candidate for the Home Coming Queen.

And, normally we African Americans would do the stupid thing and follow suit. Divide up our vote, not realizing we couldn't win even if the white students divide their vote.

So, we had a plan.

I remember going to the Black Student Association meeting for once in my life and this time it was full. Every Black Student in the university was there. We must have had a party of something planned for afterwards. I didn't take much of a part in politics at that point in my life. Just a typical college student.

The President of the "BSA", had gotten everyone together and we as a group. Remember this is important, ONE Group decided to elect this, "Beautiful Dark Skin Black Queen", *I can't say her name without her permission.

And everyone agreed. Now, someone other than me, had the in-site to say exactly what the white students were going to do to split the black vote. Put another "Beautiful Sister against our Sister", and they did.

They, the white student, nominated a "Beautiful Light Skin Black Queen". That's just like them if you think about it. But they didn't know that even the "Beautiful Light Skin Queen was at the BSA meeting that night and she vote to elect the Dark Skin Queen also.

*Brothers and Sisters, I really hate using that Light Skin,Dark Skin thing but I'm trying to make a point. Both of these Sisters were at that time and hopefully still Beautiful Human Being in their own rights period.

So, the election day came and the Black students had remained quite about the whole thing. No one, telling anyone, especially the white students that we knew what they were doing.

Long Story short....We Won..... Our Candidate Won.

Yeah, the whites were a little pissed. But we did it.

This happen in the year 1976...

You see, even at the "Peay" we had Black Students with Vision. Anything can happen when we stick together but imagine this. The Sister (Light Skin Sister) had to be will to sacrifice her Beauty for the Whole. That's REAL!

So, let's get together as a Whole, ONE, as a Individual we all Fail.
